Backyard Basketball Court Costs
In Australia, the cost of a backyard basketball 'half court' (165sqm or less) is generally within the range of $10,000 - $40,000, fully installed including concrete slab. Whilst a larger FIBA-regulation sized 'full court' (420sqm+) generally costs around $70,000 - $90,000+ fully installed including concrete slab.
The total cost of a fully installed basketball court for residential or commercial usage in Australia can vary significantly, depending on the site location, court dimensions, hoop chosen, netting/fencing and the level of excavation required. You may want to factor in a budget for landscaping as well to polish up the surrounding area.
If you're on a super-tight budget, sticking with just a concrete slab and a hoop may work for you. However, if you're aiming for the court of your dreams for some serious hoop sessions and far less injuries, then you'll very likely be planning for a quality sports surface to be installed on top of the concrete slab.
Installing a backyard basketball court is a great way to encourage the kids to switch off their gadgets, go outside and be physically active.

The components you'll need to consider...
Concrete
It all starts with a strong foundation. If the slab is not done right, problems with alignment can present during the tile installation or later in the court's life. Some sports court suppliers simply don't pour concrete, regardless of your location. In those cases you will likely be required to find, hire and manage your own local contractor(s) to complete this job. Dealing with construction contractors can present unsavoury risks to budget, safety and quality of the finished product. It can also make it difficult to set netting posts and the in-ground hoop anchor system into the concrete, as you may have to coordinate with more than one company.
The pricing of concrete slabs can vary significantly across the country and from job-to-job. We recommend budgeting $100 - $150+ per square metre of concrete required depending on slab size, inclusive of excavation, materials and labour. However, if extensive excavation is required or if the site has limited access or in a remote location, the price per square metre can be higher. So for our 3X3 GO PRO™ court example, a full-sized 3on3 half-court concrete slab (10m x 15m) generally costs in the region of $15k - 20k to prepare and pour.

In-Ground Hoop
The cost of your In-Ground Basketball Hoop will depend on a few factors such as how big you want the backboard and the hoop extension to be. It's best to stick with a tried-and-tested, heavy-duty brand (we highly recommend Goalrilla) for optimal performance, adjustability and longevity. We stock a range of the world's best, super-sturdy, permanent, outdoor, adjustable basketball hoops. The cost of a quality hoop can range from around $1,500 to $4,500.
Line Markings & Court Art
Half court line markings can usually cost upwards of $500+ to outsource. MSF Sports currently offers free commercial-grade line markings on all MSF PRO flooring packages.
Additionally, if you'd like to have your own special custom logo or artwork painted in the 'key' (or anywhere else), the average cost of a single colour logo printed is around $500, and more for multi coloured logos/art. You can supply your own vector or hi-res artwork.
Labour
Hiring labourers can set you back in the region of $300 - $400 per day per labourer, and it's often not easy to find those with experience building sports courts. Many in-ground hoops require at least three strong labourers to build.
We recommend using an experienced and reputable sports court builder to install your court surface and hoop to correctly match the approved design specs.

1. GO SMALLER : FIT SIZE TO YOUR BUDGET...
A 150sqm 3x3 half court is a very big court for a backyard, consider our Free Throw Pro™ court (approx ~9mx5m) that comes in at about a third of the size and cost of the above pricing example.
2. DIY INSTALL THE FLOORING AND/OR HOOP...
The primary way to significantly cut your installation costs is to do a portion (or all) of the construction work on your own. The biggest portion of the concrete installation, for example, is the labour costs. Do it right the first time!
MSF Sports allows you to buy the sports court tiles separately (supply only), without the hoop or installation costs. If you're confident you can DIY install it yourself, our friendly staff will be there to point you in the right direction and offer assistance.
